Our Background

Charles Brown grew up on a family farmstead in Western Michigan where he learned the value of a hard day’s work, and aquired the skills to maintain a working farm including raising livestock, construction and repair of the homestead, barn, and outbuildings, as well as maintaining and operating equipment. He pursued a career as a Chef, spent several years in the Navy and Navy Reserve, and after obtaining a BBA from Davenport College, formed CL Brown’s Aquatic Services (which later became Empire Construction Enterprises, LLC). He re-enlisted in the Navy Reserve, joining the Naval Construction Force (SEABEES), with a storied carreer of accomplishments involving multiple combat and hazardous duty tours superising multi- million dollar construction for Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and various Combatant Commanders throughout the world. He has literally undertaken or supervised construction projects in every climate and evironment, from the simple (clearing operations) to the complex (constructing fire stations and public infrastructre). He retired honorably from the US Navy in 2015, with over 24 years of combined Active and Reserve service.

Our Mission 

It is our mission to be the most reliable full-service construction company in Michigan to offer new construction, remodeling, or improvement of single and multi-family homes, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors, siding, roofing, additions, garages, luxury swimming pools, commercial buildings. Our Guiding Principle The company was founded on the principle that your words and behavior should be honorable, and by extension, the tasks you undertake and complete should be of a standard greater than laws can ever establish. To keep that in mind we adopted guidance from the New American Standard Bible (NASB) version of the New Testament book of Colossians, chapter 3, versus 23 and 24, specifically:  “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” The Logo Our logo was developed using the Coat of Arms of the Netherlands, where we trace some of the owners’ family heritage. The crown is symbolic of a higher power to which we believe everyone answers. The Bureau of Heraldry has more information on the use of the specific colors to depict honesty, purity, and service that were adopted for the coat of arms.The banner beneath the crest was modified from the original and contains the reference to Colossians 3:23, 24. In essence, we do not claim to be perfect by professing our faith as Christians, but offer this statement so that all who read it may know our intentions for conducting our business relations are based on that faith, and it is our common practice to engage in the fair treatment of others -- to be honest, courteous, and compassionate. Our Service Area The area we cover stretches from Kalamazoo as far North as Muskegon along the Lake Michigan shoreline, South to the Indiana border, and as far East as Ann Arbor, MI to include the counties of Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottowa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Jackson, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch, and Hillsdale.
